The Fernleaf Butter card was produced for a joint promotion by Telecom and the Fernleaf Butter Company of Auckland. In 1989, Fernleaf launched a series of highly acclaimed television commercials
featuring the "Fernleaf Family" in a mini series of commercial soap operas revolving around the life of this separated family. There was a competition for consumers to complete
the saga, and there were 200 prizes of $50 Telephone Cards, with the other 800 sold to collectors via a draw associated with the purchase of a Summer Sport Collector Pack.

This card was overprinted on unsold stock of the $50 Commonwealth Games card, and was only available in the Collector Pack NZ-CP-2.
